WELCOME AND MEET MORNING TEA – TUESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 10.30am – 11.30am COMMUNITY ROOM
I would like to take this opportunity to invite parents to a Welcome and Meet Morning Tea with Mrs Ruby Toombs, the Principal of Athol Road Primary School. This is an excellent opportunity for you to talk with Ruby and also meet the Campus Principals – Mrs Carmel Mathys (West Campus) and Sue Wearne (East Campus). As this is an informal meeting there will be some time given for general conversation and questions to Ruby, Carmel and Sue. However, if you have specific issues that you would like to discuss with Ruby I would ask that you phone the West Campus on 9547 1224 to make an appointment to meet. An invitation is attached to this newsletter. If you are able to attend the Morning Tea would you please contact the school on 9546 4051 and leave your name or speak to Mei, Dana or Sue Wearne. We would look forward to seeing you there.
SWIMMING Today is the end of swimming program and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in the program. Excellent participation and behaviour by our students - well done!!!! To be able to swim and understand and use water safety strategies is an essential skill for everyone to have. So many attend the beach and swimming pools and we need to have our children prepared. Swimming is part of our school program and I would hope that in 2010 we have 100% attendance.
YEAR 3/4 CAMP MEETING. Last night parents and students attended an information session for our 35 Year 3/4 campers. At this meeting important forms were given out. The Consent Forms and Camper’s Contract must be returned by Monday 16th November. The Confidential Details and Medical Forms do not need to be returned until the morning of the camp which is Wednesday 2nd December. I would like to remind parents of the students who are not attending the camp that these children must still attend school while the camp in on and a full educational program will be provided for the non campers.
FREE FAMILY NUTRITION PROGRAM – MISSION AUSTRALIA We had an excellent attendance at last Friday’s program. This week’s program involves a Healthy Lunch Box. We have over 15 parents attending this session. If you would still like to be part of the program you can still attend. The program runs from 9.45am – 10.45am in the Early Learning Centre/Kitchen and is free. Come and join us this Friday 13th November.
HOT WEATHER TIPS FROM GRADE 34A Over the past two weeks we have once again experienced the extreme heat that can suddenly occur in Victoria. In discussing this with Grade 3/4A they came up with 5 handy tips for managing in hot weather.
1. STAY IN THE SHADE AND PLAY QUIET GAMES. 2. DRINK LOTS OF WATER SO THAT YOU DON’T GET DEHYDRATED – AT LEAST 6 GLASSES A DAY. 3. WEAR A HAT, USE SUNSCREEN AND SUNGLASSES 4. STAY INSIDE ON DAYS OF EXTREME HEAT 5. WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING
These are all fantastic hot weather tips and I would ask parents to be mindful of how quickly children’s bodies can overheat from wearing too much clothing as this can cause vomiting, dehydration and heat distress. Even today, on another hot day, we have children at school in skivvies, thick bomber jackets and two and three layers of clothing!!
